Could save you hours trying to figure it out yourself. Just changing bass, treble, balance, or anything else that should be very basic will have you reach for the manual, and then good luck. But it is so painfully difficult to use that I do not recommend it to anyone who is not willing to spend at least two semesters of hard study at Denon U. At least it's an 800 number, and you usually don't wait longer than 15 minutes. I have used this receiver for two years. It sounds great, performs well, and has more features than anyone will ever use. Many times I have given up and just call tech support.
Its really slow to "re-sync" the signals. Also, do a quick search for reviews and forums to complete the picture. I chose it because I got tons of great connections and I thought the network access would be nice. Other reviews complain about the interface. I loved the sound, but I was willing to make sacrifices to not have to pay very much. Its not nearly as feature rich, but at least you can quickly do a task.As far as the sound goes, I find it to be adequate and right inline for the price. I'm a little shocked to see all the very high reviews, so I decided to post to give the full story on this unit.
I've spent a lot more and they just didn't last long enough to justify the high price. Do a quick search on this to see how other users are dealing with the common issue. I use tons of software and electronics and even taught UI development so I've seen really bad interfaces. I really thought that no matter how bad it is I could use it and/or figure it out.wow, was I wrong. Typically, I use the web UI. The reality is that the video conversion is not very good. Microsoft would even fix it before shipping. I've made tons of tweaks and still cant quite get the lush sound I had before, but its adequate. The bottom line is the unit is feature rich and output is right in line with other units in this price range.
The menus are odd to say the least. As soon as the warranty ran out, they crashed hard. Please try to listen and use this unit prior to buying.
The HDMI will actually cut out quite a bit so you'll have to get use to it. If I could do it over again, I would choose a different unit. The UI will frustrate the heck out of you and the video conversion is not exactly what you think you are getting.
I bought this receiver after owning several higher end units. The features of this unit are second to none. The UI is amazingly bad.
This unit is not for the casual user but one who will take time to learn the system and its many features,I have had mine since 08 and still I an messing with the controls and fine tuning it to my liking. This Denon 3808ci is a monster when you take it out of the box, it has many ways to hook up your audio equipment, old or new. To sum it up it well built and a solid performer, get ready to feast your eyes and ears on quality.
ILove This Product. Customers sevice.is Grate The Sound is Grate The Power is NO.1 Reel Quality.Purchase The AVR3808CI and you Well LOVE it too.
Cheap. The other remote, easy to use but not backlit and no power button, what were they thinking. Sounds are good, power good, controls BAD. I feel It's a big pain in the butt. you won't.
Any one want to buy mine. Two remotes one does everthing.overwhelming, you need the manual to use it. It has to be the most unfriendly user interface that I've come across. Don't ever think that once you get this unit that you'll ever figure it out. You have to have the manual to refer to constantly.
When listening to music or video and I hit the wrong button I don't want to spend a half hour to get the damn thing back to its original settings.
